Fable and Legend

Fable and Legend only came out on 28 January of this year. While it’s not a direct continuation from Venom and Blaze, it follows the journey of one of the characters as she tries to find her family. I have a very soft spot for Fable and Legend as it features my favourite male protagonist from the entire series.

Bewitched Blooms is a fundraiser anthology, coming out on 21 March and featuring a short story from me. My short story is called Omen and Myth and is a perfect continuation from Fable and Legend. Best of all, the fundraiser anthology is raising money for a friend of author, Briar Boleyn, as she battles cancer.

This book isn’t in the Spring Spectacular and is only going to be available on Amazon.

Cover reveal for January!

20 February, 2025 by Roz MacLaren Leave a Comment

I’m delighted to announce that my first YA sci-fi novel, January, is coming out with Evernight Teen on 21 March!

January

Leon knows January is trouble. She has magical hair with a mind of its own – and powerful enemies on her trail. When they track her down, Leon is caught up in her fight to survive. But January’s past is catching up – and it might just destroy them both…

January is a novel I wrote back in 2021. It was definitely inspired by the fact that my own hair just gets everywhere. I started thinking how useful it would be if my hair was semi-sentient or prehensile – and January was born!

January is a standalone contemporary sci-fi novel, perfect for fans of The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. I’m so excited to share it with you!

The cover

One thing that attracted me to Evernight Teen was their gorgeous covers – so I was very excited to see what their creative artists came up with for January. I think the subject matter is quite hard to portray (a girl with sentient hair that has all kinds of abilities) and the team did a brilliant job of capturing how I envisaged January. I often described her hair has having an almost electrical quality about it, as if every strand is a live wire, and the cover absolutely nails that.

Are you ready for January?

Cover reveal for Bewitched Blooms!

15 February, 2025 by Roz MacLaren Leave a Comment

Our gorgeous cover for Bewitched Blooms: A Fundraiser Anthology for Zoe is revealed! Isn’t it pretty?

I’m finishing up the final edits on Omen and Myth, my short story that’s going to be in the anthology.

PRE-ORDER NOW

My short story will only be available via this anthology. And this anthology will only be available for a limited time (approximately three months) – so be sure to pre-order while you can.

Here’s a reminder of the blurb for Omen and Myth.

In a world where no one can steal, lie or kill, Myth can do all three. She has spent her life hiding from those who would banish her. But when she discovers a letter from the father she never knew, Myth escapes into the outside world. Alongside her reluctant twin, Omen, and a trio of strangers with secrets of their own, Myth plunges headfirst into adventure. But not everyone can be trusted. When Myth’s life is on the line, is discovering where she belongs worth the price of betrayal?

Omen and Myth is perfect if you’re looking for a quick read after finishing Fable and Legend. There are plenty of ‘in-jokes’ and nods to the series. But it’s equally suitable if this is your first trip to Mirrordom, as it’s written to be a standalone too. (If you haven’t read Fable and Legend, you can order the book here.)

All the funds raised from Bewitched Blooms go towards helping Zoe, a friend of author Briar Boleyn, as she battles cancer.

The Mirrordom Legends

I’ll be taking my first two books from The Mirrordom Legends series. These are based in Scotland and Skye inspired many of the landscapes. Venom and Blaze and Fable and Legend will both be available to buy – and you’ll be able to snag some free merch too.

Bewitched Blooms – A Fundraiser Anthology

11 February, 2025 by Roz MacLaren Leave a Comment

Along with over thirty other authors, I’m going to be contributing a short story to an upcoming anthology.

Bewitched Blooms – A Fundraiser Anthology for Zoe

Zoe is a friend of author, Briar Boleyn, and is currently battling cancer. All proceeds from the anthology will go to Zoe and her family.

Omen and Myth

I’m contributing a short story entitled Omen and Myth. If you’ve read Fable and Legend, you’ll know that Legend had twins with those names. This is the story of what happens to those twins when they reach seventeen. And, if you’ve been wondering what happened to Cobalt… well, this is where you get to find out. That said, you don’t have to have read any of my stories in The Mirrordom Legends series, as the story does squeeze in enough world-building to (hopefully) make sense on its own!

Here’s the official blurb:

In a world where no one can steal, lie or kill, Myth can do all three. She has spent her life hiding from those who would banish her. But when she discovers a letter from the father she never knew, Myth escapes into the outside world. Alongside her reluctant twin, Omen, and a trio of strangers with secrets of their own, Myth plunges headfirst into adventure. But not everyone can be trusted. When Myth’s life is on the line, is discovering where she belongs worth the price of betrayal?

I had the best time writing this story. I’ve always thought, from the moment I wrote about the twins, that they deserved a bit more screen time. However, the whole series was already written out and planned and I didn’t really see where a book about the twins would fit in. So, getting an excuse to mentally go back to Mirrordom and contribute to a good cause, was lovely. I hope you’ll enjoy the short story as much as I enjoyed writing it. I also really enjoyed getting to write about Cobalt as an adult. He’s unarguably my favourite male character from the entire series – his confidence bordering on arrogance, his mind-reading and his uncanny ability to get himself out whatever scrapes his big mouth gets in him into are quite endearing.

Dates for your diary

The official cover reveal will take place on 14 February – and, I can assure you, the cover is absolutely gorgeous. The anthology comes out on 25 March.

In the meantime, you can pre-order the anthology via Amazon and add it on Goodreads.
